What is this?
[community profile] equalityauction is a fandom charity auction in the style of Sweet Charity, Live Long & Marry, Help Haiti, and countless others. Fans offer works they can create to be bid on, the winning bidder makes a donation to charity and receives the work.

[community profile] equalityauction is seeking to raise money because Black Lives Matter. While a few funds, charities, and causes will be suggested by this community, there is a long list that's accepting donations and any from it may be chosen.

How It Works:

For one week, creators offer items for either auction or as "Buy-It-Now". Once that week ends, bidding (or Buying) begins. For "Buy-It-Now" items, the creator has set a price and the first person to agree to that price wins. (Note: Creators may, for example, offer three identical items for the first three buyers.) For auctions, bidding is done by commenting to the auction listing. The next bidder replies to the high bid with their own, higher bid. At the end, the highest bidder wins the item.

Donations can be made immediately upon confirmation of either winning a Buy-It-Now or auction. (Instructions for confirmation will be updated in the near future.)

This post may be updated at any time with additional information.

Since the question has been asked several times:

There is no AO3 collection for the Equality Auction.

This mod account has no AO3 account and the remaining mods have no desire to attach names to a collection nor create a fresh account solely for that purpose.

Thank you. Together we raised more than $12,350 for NAACP's Legal Defense Fund, a variety of bail funds, the Trevor Project, Black Lives Matter groups in multiple countries, the families of those lost to police brutality, and dozens of other related charities.

Thank you.

- Donations are due TODAY, July 11th.

- If you are an auction creator whose winning bidder does not complete their donation by the end of the day, you are welcome to ask the next highest bidder if they remain interested in your item, etc. Any donations from these "second chance" auctions should be completed as soon as possible.

- Either winner or creator can make first contact once donations are confirmed.

- Current tally is just over $12k for a variety of wonderful causes. Thank you!

(ETA: There are a couple of donations where I'm waiting for clarification. Those donations will be confirmed ASAP. If you're considering a "second chance" offer and want to make sure your winner isn't just in limbo, please ask.)

- Donations are due in one week, by July 11th.

- There have been questions as to whether creators should be contacting winners or winners contacting creators. There's no wrong way or hard, fast rule. If you haven't heard from the other, go ahead and make first contact.

- A quick tally of current donations comes out to over $9000 across a wide variety of related causes. THANK YOU!

The Buy-It-Now post is now closed to further purchases.

Thank you for the fantastic turnout and speedy donations thus far. Donation receipts are arriving at such a wonderful speed that I cannot keep up despite my best efforts. I am getting to them as quickly as I can, but please be patient while I unbury myself from this amazing charitable outpouring!

Auction Bidding has closed. Some Buy-It-Now offers remain open for another day. (These offers will have an additional comment beneath them stating such.)

Donation receipts go in the comments to the Donation post. When they are confirmed, you and the creator(s) will receive a comment stating such.

There have been questions about auction creators offering items to losing bidders. That's up to the creator and solely their decision to make. If their winning bidder has not donated by July 11th, they may also offer items to their chosen number of "second chance" bidders.

This event's first, most important goal is to help some very important causes at this very important time. It also has a secondary goal of participants retaining as much control over their information as possible.

We had no idea the event would be as big as it is, for which we are grateful. We also had no idea that an unofficial spreadsheet of participant information would be created and circulated without our immediate knowledge, which we received upset comments about.

One of the reasons we chose to keep the event as solely on Dreamwidth as possible is to cut off any harassment as quickly as possible. The other reason is the aforementioned participant control. Mods do not receive emails from this community, aside from the Questions post. Once donations are confirmed, participants may delete donation receipts. No copies are being kept anywhere, just a line on a list that will be destroyed in the future as well.

Thank you for understanding and participating,
[personal profile] partridgemod

ETA: We've been informed the spreadsheet has been deleted, which was a decision by its creator and not at our request.

This is a post for asking any questions not covered elsewhere.

Comments are screened.

Answers may be added to the main Information post or in other relevant places.

Frequent Answers:

Offering explicit fanworks is fine.

Dollar amounts are in USD, bid increments should be no lower than $1USD.

If you are offering multiple different items in the auction post, utilizing a separate comment for each offer will minimize potential confusion once bidding opens.

You may edit your offers until bidding opens. After that point, do not edit your offers.

A post containing more information about bidding/buy-it-now and confirming donation will be posted on June 19th.
